The tenth anniversary of David Letterman‘s final network broadcast is still nearly three weeks away, but Letterman archivist Don Giller is getting a jump on the commemorations as only he can—with a painstakingly compiled new 33-minute video.
Titled “The Letterman Faces Project, Part 2,” the new video presents 4,214 screenshots of Letterman—one from each episode of Late Show with David Letterman, which aired from August 30th, 1993 through May 20th, 2015. The clip is set to a soundtrack of musical performances from Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra, many of which have previously only been heard during commercial breaks by those inside the Ed Sullivan Theatre.
The project is a sequel of sorts to a similar video Giller released four years ago, comprised of 1,810 screenshots from the entire run of Late Night with David Letterman.
While intended as a tribute to Letterman and his staff, the two faces projects combined also serve as proof positive that Giller has in his posession the most extensive archive of Letterman’s shows outside of (perhaps) the host himself.
In fact, for nearly seven years between the end of Letterman’s CBS show and the (re)launch of Letterman’s official YouTube channel in 2022, it was Giller who kept the flame alive for many fans of the legendary late-night host as he uploaded hundreds of clips and compilations from his collection to his personal YouTube channel, amassing nearly 250 million views in the process (all unmonetized by the ever-ethical Giller).
