Former Saturday Night Live cast member Ego Nwodim is set to make her Off-Broadway debut later this fall with a new solo comedy show.
Directed by Zhailon Levingston (Cats: The Jellicle Ball), Nwodim’s production will run November 19–23 at Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theate as part of The Comedy Series, a new creative incubator for acclaimed comedians developing original live work.
The engagement marks Nwodim’s first major project since exiting SNL ahead of the show’s 51st season. Though initially expected to return this year, the seven-year veteran of the legendary sketch show opted to pursue new creative opportunities instead.
Appearing last month at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York, Nwodim reflected on her post-SNL ambitions: “There’s so much I want to do and SNL is always meant to be a stepping stone. There’s so many ideas I need to have time to create—directing, more writing in a different capacity. Very excited. It’s an exciting thing.”
According to organizers, The Comedy Series aims to provide a platform where established comedic voices can experiment with theatrical form. The initiative will also feature solo shows from Vir Das (October 29–November 9), Jerrod Carmichael (November 12–16), and Sam Jay (December 3–14). Each performer will bring a new, evolving piece to the intimate Off-Broadway space.
Tickets for Nwodim’s shows go on pre-sale today, with general sales opening October 20 via LCT.org.
