Ego Nwodim Returning to TV in New Hulu Series

Ego Nwodim’s post-Saturday Night Live era just keeps getting busier.

Nwodim has joined the cast of Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy Not Suitable For Work.

Created by Kaling, the series follows five “work-obsessed twenty-somethings” navigating a new stage of life in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood. Nwodim will play the Assistant Head of School at an all-girls school.

The project reunites her with another SNL alum: former writer Charlie Grandy, who serves as showrunner after previously collaborating with Kaling on The Mindy Project. Grandy worked on SNL from 2001–2008, eventually becoming a producer on “Weekend Update.”

Not Suitable For Work adds to a growing list of solo ventures for Nwodim. In the last month, she’s relaunched her podcast (reuniting with castmate Heidi Gardner), and booked her solo off-Broadway debut.

Nwodim’s SNL departure after seven seasons came as a shock to most, and left the show without woman of color on the cast. She reflected on her SNL exit during an appearance on Sherri Wednesday, likening her seven seasons on the show to a long-term relationship she’d outgrown. “I got the seven-year itch,” she told Sherri Shepherd. “It felt like the time to make space for something else for me.”

Not Suitable For Work marks Nwodim’s first regular scripted role since headlining Peacock’s Mr. Throwback in 2024.
