Desi Lydic Sets Tonight Show Debut

One of 11 PM’s most familiar faces will pay a visit to 11:30 PM next week when The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic makes her Tonight Show debut.

Lydic is scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, May 13.

It’s unclear if Lydic will be promoting something other than The Daily Show during her chat with Jimmy Fallon, but the longtime correspondent turned rotating guest host’s latest turn at the show’s anchor desk came just this week. And Lydic’s “Foxsplains” web series for The Daily Show recently garnered two Webby Award wins for Best Social in the News & Politics division: both a traditional Webby, and a People’s Voice Award in the category.

Though this will be Lydic’s first Tonight Show visit, she’s no stranger the late-night guest chair, having logged past appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year, and on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2019 to promote her TDS-branded special, Desi Lydic: Abroad.

Lydic first joined The Daily Show as a correspondent in 2015, and currently shares hosting duties Tuesdays through Thursdays with the show’s four other senior correspondents. In fact, she’s hosted the show more times this year than any of her peers, logging five weeks behind the desk for a total of 16 episodes to date. (Jordan Klepper and Michael Kosta have each hosted 10 episodes this year, while Ronny Chieng has hosted 9.)

Lydic is the first of the show’s current stable of correspondents to appear on The Tonight Show during The Daily Show‘s rotating hosts era. Chieng performed standup on The Tonight Show back in 2019, several years into his tenure as a Daily Show correspondent but prior to his regular turns guest-hosting. Josh Johnson has also brought his standup to the show three times, but not since signing onto The Daily Show as a correspondent in February 2024.

When After Midnight with Taylor Tomlinson goes off the air next month, Lydic’s periodic three-day stints as Daily Show host will also make her the only female host among the traditional late-night shows.

Fallon’s Tuesday night episode will also feature musician Blake Shelton.
