Colin Jost‘s first starring role in a TV drama has some real teeth to it.
The Saturday Night Live vet is set to executive-produce and star in a Peacock dramedy “inspired by the shocking and absurd true story” of Larry Lavin, the suburban dentist who built a cocaine empire behind the façade of the American dream.
Should the as-yet-untitled project wind up ordered to series, Deadline reports that he could juggle the two commitments à la Kenan Thompson and his eponymous NBC sitcom, Cecily Strong and Schmigadoon!, and Aidy Bryant and Shrill.
Outside of his run as SNL writer and “Weekend Update” co-anchor, Jost has had roles in wife Scarlett Johansson’s 2024 film Fly Me to the Moon, Coming 2 America, the live-action/animation hybrid Tom & Jerry, and the 2015 indie Staten Island Summer (which he wrote). This Peacock series, though, would mark his first starring role in a scripted TV drama.
The series is being written by EP/showrunner Alex Barnow (The Goldbergs, ‘Til Death), and is based on Season 1 of the Audacy podcast Wolves Among Us. Jeff Grosvenor and Rachel Kaplan would also serve as EPs, with Lavin, Matt Davis and Steve Seidel as co-executive producers.
