This just in: Get ready for more Have I Got News for You in 2025. The CNN series has been officially renewed for Season 2.
The panel-style show, modeled after the long-running BBC comedy series of the same name, is hosted by former Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. He’s accompanied by team captains Amber Ruffin—who led her own late-night show, The Amber Ruffin Show, on Peacock from 2020-2022—and sketch comedian/actor Michael Ian Black.
“For its inaugural season, Have I Got News For You has been a welcome and lively extension of the CNN brand, and our viewers continue to show enthusiasm for comic relief on Saturday nights,” CNN’s Amy Entelis, executive vice president for talent and creative development, said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled that Have I Got News For You has made an impact with the CNN audience and can’t wait to come back next year,” the show’s executive producer Jimmy Mulville added (a British comedian in his own right). “I think we’ll have plenty of news to poke fun at!”
Have I Got News For You premiered Sept. 13, joining CNN’s encore presentation of Real Time With Bill Maher as part of the network’s renewed focus on primetime programming over the weekends, creating a new comedy block on Saturday evenings.
“I just think it’s important for people to have a place on a weekend to exhale about the week,” host Wood told LateNighter in a September interview. “That’s all we’re trying to be. It’s just a comedic exhale. We can get back to seriousness and the mud and the muck on Monday morning.”
“For me, that’s the real goal,” Wood continued. “The real win is that you’ve had six days to be angry about it. Now let’s see what we can find in the funny.”
The Season 1 finale of Have I Got News For You airs this Saturday, Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on CNN and will be available to stream on Max the following day. Journalist Kara Swisher is set to guest.
The series is executive produced by Mulville, Jim Biederman, and Richard Wilson for Britain’s Hat Trick Productions.
