Chuck Schumer to Visit Colbert’s Late Show Amid Democratic Backlash

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is set to make a return visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert next week.

It will be Schumer’s fourth time guesting with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, and his first late-night television appearance since 2021.

Schumer has ignited a firestorm of criticism from some in the Democratic party over the last week after he reversed course and announced he would vote to move forward on a Republican-backed funding bill, avoiding a government shutdown.

“Cleary, this is a Hobson’s choice,’ he said at the time. “The CR is a bad bill. But as bad as the CR is, I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option. A shutdown would allow DOGE to shift into overdrive. It would give Donald Trump and DOGE the keys to the city, state, and country.”

In the days since, Schumer has faced condemnation from the likes of Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and calls from progressive groups to resign.

Schumer has stuck to his guns amid the backlash, maintaining that he stands behind his decision. But the Senator, who’s promoting his new book Antisemitism in America: A Warning, has been forced to curtail several stops on a planned book tour citing security concerns.

Presumably both the book and the controversy over his decision to vote for the Republican-backed funding bill will both be topics of conversation when he sits down with Colbert next Thursday March 27th.
