Brat Summer may be over, it lives on (and on) in the first promo for this week’s SNL, courtesy of none other than Charli XCX herself.
The “Brat” singer—who was just nominated for Album of the Year—is set to be both the host and musical guest for this Saturday’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
The just-released promo sees cast member Chloe Fineman run into Charli XCX in the 17th floor writers’ room.
“Charli, we’re so excited you’re here this week,” Fineman tells her. “Brat,” the singer responds.
“Totally. And you’re hosting—and doing music. How are you feeling?” asks Fineman.
“Brat,” comes the response.
After confessing that she doesn’t understand what Charli XCX is saying, Fineman apparently catches on, as the two volley a series of highly emotive “Brat”s back and forth.
Stumbling across them, featured player Emil Wakim says “Yeah, I feel like I still don’t understand what ‘Brat’ means.”
“But you will. babes,” the singer responds as she strikes a pose, her hair flowing behind her (courtesy of a leaf blower in the hands of Chloe Fineman).
While this weekend will mark Charli XCX’s host debut, it’s hardly her first SNL rodeo. She’s been the show’s musical guest twice in the past—first in December 2014 with host Martin Freeman, and then in March 2022 (hosted by Oscar Isaac), in which she also played a keyboard-toting meatball in Sarah Sherman and Dan Bulla’s “Meatballs” pre-tape.
Bowen Yang also memorably impersonated the singer in September’s Season 50 premiere. The show’s “Charli XCX Talk Show” sketch saw Yang host The Talk Talk Show with Troye Sivan (Sarah Sherman), along with guests Susanne Bartsch (Jean Smart), Kaitlan Collins (Chloe Fineman), and Jasmine Crockett (Ego Nwodim).
Other performers who have taken on SNL double duty as both musical guest and host in the past include Dolly Parton, Sting, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Drake, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Billie Eilish, Megan thee Stallion, Bad Bunny, and more. Most recently, Dua Lipa pulled off a highly successful double duty in May.
SNL returns this Saturday, November 16 at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
