Chappell Roan Had SNL Dreams at Age 13—And She’s Got the Facebook Post to Prove It

It’s not uncommon for a first-time Saturday Night Live host or musical guest to describe experience as a dream come true, but Chappell Roan brought the receipts.

In an Instagram post Friday night, Roan shared a throwback Facebook post from 2011, when still went by her birthname, Kayleigh Amstutz.

“I am determined to be on SNL,” the then-13 year-old wrote.

Clearly her determination paid off, as Roan’s set to perform as the show’s musical guest tonight alongside host John Mulaney.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see the “Midwest Princess,” who’s now 26, appear in a sketch or two. Three weeks ago, she was the subject of a “Weekend Update” bit performed by Bowen Yang that put her words in the mouth of baby hippo sensation Moo Deng. And earlier this week cast member Chloe Fineman revealed that she’s got an impression of Roan, although she added that she’d want to do a “temperature check” with Roan before bringing it to the show.

Roan got her start as a teenager uploading covers and original songs to YouTube. She burst on the pop scene over the past year with her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” making waves with both her music and her outrageous, often boundary-pushing fashion.

She made her 8H debut Thusday in a promo for this weekend’s SNL.

Wearing an outfit designed by Gunnar Deatherage, she appeared alongside Mulaney and cast member Ego Nwodim as the trio took part in gag revolving around the “Hope she plays ‘Hot to Go'” meme that began making the rounds this summer.
