Colbert’s Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Gets Post-Late Show Makeover

The Americone Dream is still alive—it just looks a bit different now.

In the video above, Stephen Colbert reveals that his 19-year-old, signature flavor of the premium Ben & Jerry’s ice cream brand is getting a patriotic makeover.

As seen in the side-by-side below, gone is the late-night talk show-style marquee and city skyline backdrop, replaced by a fireworks-filled sky.

Also, Colbert himself is no longer clad in a talk show host-typical suit, but a more casual button-down with no tie.

The change-up of course coincides with the imminent end of both CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Colbert’s decades-long run as a late-night personality. But one could argue it also dovetails nicely with this summer’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

A Top 10 Ben & Jerry’s flavor (out of the current 80), Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream contains vanilla ice cream with a caramel swirl and fudge-covered waffle pieces. Proceeds from the flavor’s sales have supported Colbert’s charitable Americone Dream Fund, and each year at Christmastime, Colbert would invite his staff to choose the organizations that benefit.

Colbert reports in the video above that to date, the Americone Dream Fund has donated more than $7.5 million, to 138 organizations (at last count).

Ice cream icons Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield made clear in a December visit to The Late Show that while Colbert’s talker may be sunsetting, “The Americone Dream will go on!” trumpeted Ben. Added Jerry, “The Dream continues!”

Colbert in turn closed out that show “by paraphrasing Ted Kennedy from his 1980 Democratic Convention speech: For me, this [show] will come to an end. But for all those whose care have been our own, the work goes on, the hope still lives, and Americone Dream shall never die.”

NOW is the time to buy and stash some of that! It will go well with the bubbly we’ll be sipping in tribute to a fantastic show by a beloved group of human beings.

    Probably sold out everywhere already.

Geez.. enough about Colbert already. Every time I come here there’s another nonsense article about the guy.
