Bad Bunny Will Make SNL History With Back-to-Back Billings

Bad Bunny is about to notch a milestone no other Saturday Night Live guest has managed before.

On October 4, he will become the first-ever guest formally billed on two consecutive SNL episodes. Bad Bunny closed out Season 50 in May as musical guest alongside host Scarlett Johansson. Now he’s back as host, with Doja Cat joining as musical guest.

The closest comparison belongs to Tom Hanks, who hosted the penultimate episode of Season 13 in February 1988, before returning to host the Season 14 premiere that October. Because Season 13 was cut short by a writers’ strike, the calendar gap between Hanks’ appearances was longer than it sounds.

Candice Bergen and Buck Henry also came close, each appearing on two episodes just four shows apart. Bergen hosted Episodes 4 and 8 of Season 1, while Henry hosted the Season 4 finale and Episode 4 of Season 5.

First appearing as a musical guest on 2021, Bad Bad Bunny rocketed to SNL favorite status after his double-duty episode in Season 49, in which he headlined standout sketches like Please Don’t Destroy’s “Bad Bunny Is Shrek” and “Protective Mom,” alongside a cameo from Pedro Pascal.

Before returning as musical guest in last season’s finale, he popped up in the “Domingo” sketch during February’s 50th anniversary special and performed at the SNL50 Homecoming Concert that opened the anniversary weekend.

Between seasons, his profile has only grown thanks to acting roles in Happy Gilmore 2 and Caught Stealing.

Still, back-to-back billing is a distinction that’s eluded even the show’s most frequent hosts—including John Mulaney, who raced to five-timer status in just two and a half years, with two appearances in 2020 alone.

Bad Bunny cements his place in SNL history Saturday, October 4, on NBC.
