After Midnight to Help Promote New CBS Soap Beyond the Gates

After Midnight is venturing Beyond the Gates this week, mixing comedy and daytime drama all in the name of a little CBS cross promotion.

Two stars from the upcoming daytime soap Beyond the Gates are set to make “a special appearance” on Wednesday night’s show. Clifton Davis and Karla Mosley will join host Taylor Tomlinson during the broadcast, promoting next Monday’s series premiere of their new daytime series.

Beyond the Gates is an unsual addition to the CBS lineup in a couple ways. It’s the first new network daytime soap to premiere since the late Passions, and the first soap built around a Black cast since Generations premiered 44 years ago. The show was ordered by the network last year, replacing its long-running daytime talk show The Talk.

On Beyond the Gates, Davis stars as Vernon Dupree, a former senator and the patriarch of an affluent family living in a gated community outside Washington, D.C. Mosley plays Dani Dupree, Vernon’s daughter and a model-turned-momager to her own children.

Tomlinson’s panelists for Wednesday will include The Opposition with Jordan Klepper alumni Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson, as well as comedian Monét X Change.

Tomlinson will welcome a different CBS star the next night. Actor Morris Chestnut will make his own special appearance on Thursday to promote his new CBS vehicle, Watson.

After Midnight is no stranger to network cross-promotion. In another special appearance last year, Justin Hartley, star of CBS’ Tracker, dropped by to replace Tomlinson for a minute in a Tracker-inspired bit.

The show also frequently welcomes panelists from other CBS/Paramount shows.

Davis and Mosley’s appearance on After Midnight airs Wednesday, February 19, on CBS at 12:37 a.m. ET. It will also stream the next day on Paramount+.
