After Midnight Announces Guests for Final Week of Shows

Taylor Tomlinson and After Midnight are set to go out with a bang, welcoming back some of the show’s favorite comics for a final tournament of champions.

Among the comics scheduled to participate in the show Monday through Wednesday are Paul F. Tompkins, Pete Holmes, Gillian Jacobs, Sasheer Zamata, and Kurt Braunohler. All have appeared on the show at least three times before.

Thursday’s episode will see the winners from each of the three night return for a chance to be the show’s final victor

The week’s full schedule follows below:

  • Mon June 9 – Pete Holmes, Kurt Braunohler, Gillian Jacobs
  • Tues June 10 – Marcella Arguello, Affion Crockett, Milana Vayntrub
  • Weds June 11 – Sasheer Zamata. Tien Tran, Paul F. Tompkins
  • Thurs Jun 12 – THE FINAL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP (Series Finale)

News first broke that After Midnight would be ending its two-season run in late March. Though the show had reportedly been renewed for a third season earlier this year, that decision was said to have been reversed after Tomlinson made it known that she intended to step away from the show at the end of this season.

“Hosting After Midnight has genuinely been the experience of a lifetime, and I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey,” Tomlinson said in a statement at the time.”Though it was an extremely tough decision, I knew I had to return to my first passion and return to stand-up touring full-time.”

After Midnight’s executive producer and lead-in Stephen Colbert supported Tomlinson’s decision in a statement of his own.

“While we were excited and grateful for our third season to start in the fall, we respect Taylor’s decision to return to stand-up full time,” he said. “I want to thank CBS for their constant support and invaluable partnership on After Midnight and the whole staff for their amazing dedication.”

After Midnight first debuted on the network in January 2024, taking the time slot following Colbert’s Late Show. It was renewed for a second season just five months later.

CBS announced late last month that After Midnight‘s time slot will be filled with two back-to-back episodes of the long-running syndicated comedy panel show Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, in what was later reported by LateNighter’s Bill Carter to be a time buy.

No Thomas Lennon is a huge miss.

  2. Carl Johnson says:

love you Taylor Tomlinson sorry to see you go

  3. SM in SF says:

CBS should have pushed a Chris Hardwick hosted @Midnight. A proper “fake game show” with NO monologue.
Marcella Arguello is back & still can’t force myself to watch this final week.

    1. xero says:

no one wants anything to do w hardwick after his ex spilled details not even Wil Wheton and they were freinds for decades

  4. Mark Anderson says:

The most prominent guest they can get is the AT&T girl?

    Oh well…another Stephen Colbert failure.

    1. fred lord says:

Stephen Colbert is a not a classically trained producer. He is a “talent.” CBS gave him a gift of a show that follows his.

  5. JC says:

Enjoyed this show a lot & Taylor’s opening monologs were the best. Thanks for two seasons of great laughs

  6. xero says:

I can’t blame her for wanting to go back to stand up when I don’t understand is why they are canceling the show when they could just as easily find someone else to replace her

    1. Stone says:

This. It makes absolutely no sense why they wouldn’t just get a new host, and I’m baffled why anyone hasn’t posed this question to CBS or Colbert. I can’t imagine they’d have a good answer, but it’d be nice to at least have an answer on the record.

Just because someone is a Comedian, does not mean that they understand, or are prepared for the kind of grind and committment that hosting a daily television show takes. It is a marathon that can become more and more difficult the longer the show is on the air. She knows her limitations and where her heart is. Best wishes.

  7. Michael says:

the last few twirls CBS did to the show really made it unwatchable compared to the CC nights. Tomlinson felt pushed compared to the first few months. and not to the @midnight world championship not be shown is a disgrace. we need funches to come throw it on the line.

  8. Teddy Ray says:

I’ve enjoyed this show so much and I’m really going to miss it. Taylor is so cute and very funny and the show has been my favorite lately night show since the beginning.

  9. Pete says:

Too bad. Should have kept it going.
Imagine if The Tonight Show ended with the first host… or Doctor Who with the first Doctor?
No other FEMALE comedian to take over? Real shame.
Guest Host Lisa Gilroy would be perfect.
The show will be greatly missed as a showcase for comedians.

  10. Fred Lord says:

I am surprised that CBS is not replacing the host and keeping the show on the air. Rather, they will now air one of Byron Allen’s mediocre bad “comedy” shows instead.

  11. Night Owl Bibi says:

Taylor is smart, quick, funny, and beautiful, with impeccable timing and delivery. It only took a few minutes to recognize her talent (and only a few minutes to see Comics Unleashed is unwatchable); very sad to see her go.
