Revisit Ryan Gosling’s Complete SNL History in One Short Video

More than 10 years after making his first Saturday Night Live appearance, and coming up on two years since his last go-round as host, Ryan Gosling is set to return to Studio 8H for this weekend’s episode.

Ahead of Gosling’s fourth turn as SNL host, LateNighter’s podcast partner the Saturday Night Network has put together a breezy but in-depth look at his previous appearances on the long-running sketch comedy series. Hosted by Jon Schneider and produced and edited by Cameron Bristow and James Stephens, the highlight reel revisits the sketches, characters, and moments that Gosling memorably was a part of.

Included are details on Gosling’s SNL debut in December 2015, which famously featured what some called “the greatest moment in Kate McKinnon‘s career”—her debut as the very first “Close Encounter” sketch’s Miss Rafferty.

Gosling’s other memorable SNL moments include his September 2017 monologue about “saving jazz” (with help from Emma Stone) via the acclaimed film La La Land, and the “Papyrus” pre-tape in which he was haunted by the font used for the Avatar films. That hosting encore also featured a “Close Encounter” reprise with McKinnon and Cecily Strong.

Lording over Studio 8H in April 2024, Gosling during his monologue performed a duet with Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt about the friendly BarbieOppenheimer rivalry; we got the eighth and most recent “Close Encounter”; and Gosling and Mikey Day had Heidi Gardner breaking all over the place with their prosthetics-heavy, live-action “Beavis and Butt-Head” portrayal.
