Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney may be both be out, but Mikey Day and Marcello Hernández would seem to be very much in for Saturday Night Live‘s milestone 50th season, with the two castmates appearing at the Paris Olympics to help promote the show’s September return.
Dressed in matching Team USA jackets (and berets, but of course), Day and Hernández sat down with Mike Tirico Friday night as part of NBC’s primetime Olympics coverage.
Asked by Tirico whether they’ve had a chance to take in any of the Games, the two castmates revealed that they were in the crowd when the US gymnastics team won gold.
“We saw a human being fly!” Day exclaimed. “Why isn’t your mind blown, Mike?”
Day and Hernández also logged some this time this week with gold-winning Canadian Olympic Speed Walker Evan Dunfee, who was seen giving them some pointers before dusting them out on the track.
“Evan was incredible,” Day told Tirico, as Hernández chimed in “and Canadian!”
Saturday Night Live has been all over the network’s coverage of the Summer Olympics this past week, with SNL staffers past and present making appearances—and in Colin Jost’s case, helping to cover the games themselves as an NBC Sports surfing reporter (in between visits to the medical tent).
SNL is set to return for Season 50 on September 28th.
