Saturday Night Live featured player Veronika Słowikowska has landed her first leading role in a feature film.
Słowikowska will star in Stephanie, Bride to Be, a comedy she also helped develop.
Deadline reported the news Tuesday. The film follows Stephanie as a party built around her expected proposal begins to unravel while she waits for the big question to actually be popped. Amy Sedaris and Michael Imperioli will play her parents, with Reina Hardesty and Lea DeLaria rounding out the cast.
Słowikowska shares story credit on the film with screenwriters Allie Viti and Zach Schiffman.
“When Allie, Zach and I started developing this comedy we knew we had something special on our hands,” Słowikowska told Deadline. “It’s so thrilling to make something with my best friends and the involvement of a visionary like John Wilson.”
Viti, whose writing and producing credits include HBO’s How To with John Wilson and the upcoming film The History of Concrete, will make her directorial debut with Stephanie, Bride to Be. How To creator John Wilson will executive produce, as will Słowikowska.
Outside of SNL, Słowikowska most recently appeared on the big screen in the romcom One Night Only, and has two more features on the horizon: Close to Nowhere, an indie comedy from SNL scribe Jack Bensinger, and Turpentine, a thriller led by Melissa McCarthy.
Though SNL has not yet confirmed its Season 52 cast, Słowikowska is poised to begin her second season on the sketch show when it returns September 26.
