SNL’s Veronika Słowikowska Toplines Indie Comedy Close to Nowhere

One of Saturday Night Live’s new featured players has a pre-SNL project on the way.

Veronika Słowikowska stars in the upcoming indie comedy Close to Nowhere—a film she shot earlier this year, before joining the cast of SNL.

As Deadline first reported Monday, the film follows a woman named Coco—played by Słowikowska—who convinces a famous writer that she has psychic abilities. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Dr. Death actor Luke Kirby co-stars as the writer.

The film’s ensemble also includes one of Słowikowska’s current Saturday Night Live colleagues. Comedian Jack Bensinger—a regular Sarah Sherman collaborator who joined the writing staff this season—appears in the film as well.

The project marks the feature-length directorial debut of writer-director Samantha Carroll, who most recently helmed the short film Isaac.

Słowikowska entered Studio 8H with a more substantial acting résumé than the show’s typical new featured player. Perhaps best recognized for her recurring roles on FX’s horror-comedy What We Do in the Shadows and Shane Gillis’ Netflix comedy Tires, she also starred in the 2024 Hulu series Davie & Jonesie’s Locker and appeared in the Freevee romcom EXmas and the acclaimed 2022 indie I Like Movies.

Close to Nowhere is currently in post-production. It’s expected to debut on the festival circuit sometime in 2026.
