Now that Jon Stewart is back working Mondays at The Daily Show, don’t be too surprised if you see another old host of the show back at the desk.
During a Wednesday morning visit with Today to promote his new book Into the Uncut Grass, the former TDS host affirmed that he’d be more than willing to return to his old stomping grounds.
“Would you ever go back to The Daily Show, just for a guest thing?” anchor Savannah Guthrie asked the comedian. “Look at Jon. He’s doing Mondays.”
“Oh, always. Always,” Noah responded. In fact, Noah and his predecessor-turned-successor, Jon Stewart, have apparently talked about it—although his answer seemed to suggest that he envisions returning as a guest, not a guest host.
“Jon and I text about it all the time,” he said. “I’m just gonna come pop in and just like, harass him for a full day, and then be his guest.”
Noah has referenced his close communications with Stewart before. During a Q&A at a standup show earlier this year, the comic revealed that he knew about Stewart’s impending return before it was announced.
Explaining that he always wished he could do a version of The Daily Show with a lighter schedule, Noah had a distinct reaction to learning that Stewart had returned to the desk in a once-a-week capacity.
“I literally messaged him,” Noah said, “and I was like, ‘You son of a b****. You figured it out!’”
Noah spent eight years with TDS, including seven as host. He joined the program as a correspondent in 2014, then was named host after Stewart’s departure in 2015. Noah unexpectedly announced his own exit from the show in late 2022.
