Taylor Tomlinson Is Returning to TV in New Comedy Special

Taylor Tomlinson is heading back to television.

The comedian and former After Midnight host just wrapped her latest stand-up special for Netflix.

The special is Tomlinson’s first headlining screen project since her CBS late-night series ended its run in June, and it also marks a culmination of that show’s end. Although After Midnight was set to be renewed for a third season, Tomlinson opted to step away from the CBS panel show to focus solely on her stand-up career, prompting CBS to cancel it.

Even before leaving After Midnight, Tomlinson had been touring extensively with her “Save Me Tour,” which began last year and spans material about sex, religion, and self-discovery—themes that anchor her new special. During the live run, audiences were treated to a recurring encore called “Crowd Confessions,” which saw Tomlinson and her openers return to the stage to swap audience stories while seated on a church pew.

In keeping with the tour’s religious motif, Tomlinson recorded the special at Michigan’s Fountain Street Church, a 101-year-old church in Grand Rapids. She staged two warm-up shows on October 30 and 31 before taping two performances of the set on November 1.

Tomlinson had initially planned to film the special in December, but scheduling conflicts moved production up by more than a month.

The project marks Tomlinson’s fourth stand-up special overall, following Quarter-Life Crisis (2020), Look At You (2022), and Have It All (2024). It continues her partnership with Netflix, which released each of those previous hours.

This time around, Tomlinson also took on directing duties, making the special her directorial debut. She shared a backstage photo after the tapings, posting an emoji shedding a happy tear alongside the caption, “Taped/directed my 4th comedy special this weekend.”

Tomlinson’s other post-After Midnight projects include Actually, Nevermind, a book of autobiographical essays she’s writing for Gallery Books. She’ll also narrate the audiobook edition.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the new special.
