Stephen Colbert received a standing ovation at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night as he made his first major public appearance off his own show since CBS announced it would cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at the end of this season.
Audience members rose to their feet in applause as Colbert was introduced to present the first award of the night
“Thank you very much. You are very kind. Thank you! Sit down! Thank you very much. We’ve got to go! While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?” he said, drawing laughter from the audience. “Because I’ve got 200 very well qualified candidates with me here tonight. Who will be available in June. I also brought my own résumé here tonight. I haven’t had a chance to update my headshot in a bit, but I think it still works.”
Holding up a 90s-era headshot, he added, “I am in there somewhere. After I get back from Istanbul, I’m sure. I only have the one, so Harrison Ford, could you get this to Spielberg? Would you?” The room erupted in applause before Colbert moved on to announce, “And the nominees for lead actor in a comedy series are…”

CBS announced earlier this year that Colbert’s top-rated The Late Show will end its run in June. We may get another chance to see Colbert onstage tonight. His CBS show is nominated for Outstanding Talk Series against Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Daily Show. Were The Late Show to win, it would be the show’s first win the category.
