SNL’s Mikey Day, Ashley Padilla Join Nate Bargatze Holiday Special

Where Lorne Michaels goes, Saturday Night Live stars seem to follow.

So it shouldn’t surprise that cast members Mikey Day and Ashley Padilla are both set to appear on Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas, the comedian’s upcoming one-hour holiday variety special.

The special, which was taped late last month at the Grand Ole Opry reunites Bargatze (a two-time SNL host) with Michaels, who’s on board as executive producer.

There’s no word yet on exactly what roles the two cast members will play, but a production photo released by CBS suggests they will take part in a Nativity sketch with Bargatze. As we’ve previously reported, SNL writing partners Day and Streeter Seidel—who teamed up with Bargatze on his “Washington’s Dream” sketch last season (and its sequel this season)—were brought on to help write the variety special earlier this fall.

According to CBS, Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas will feature a mix of stand-up comedy, pre-taped comedy shorts, sketches, and musical performances from the likes of Noah Kahan, Martina McBride, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Derrick Stroup, the Tennessee Titans, and Carrie Underwood.

Bargatze, who hosted SNL for the second time this October, also recently struck up a new deal with Netflix to produce two more specials. The first, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, is set to premiere globally on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

The CBS holiday special will mark Bargatze’s fifth overall special. His previous work includes Full Time Magic for Comedy CentralThe Tennessee Kid and The Greatest Average American for Netflix, and Hello World for Amazon’s Prime Video.

Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas airs Thursday, Dec. 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and will stream the next day on Paramount+.
