What’s more revealing than a Rorshach test? For comedy writers, it might be the alternate images that didn’t make it into your “Rorshach Test” SNL sketch.
That’s what Saturday Night Live writer Steven Castillo shared on Twitter after this past weekend’s SNL, which featured host Bill Burr taking a Rorshach test that quickly goes off the rails.
In the sketch, Burr plays a firefighter who can’t help but see some really strange, really specific images when presented with the test: Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc. in wedding lingerie, Olaf and a topless Elsa, and a jacked Snoopy walking Charlie Brown, to name a few.
Castillo co-wrote the sketch with Dan Bulla and the Please Don’t Destroy trio of John Higgins, Ben Marshall, and Martin Herlihy.
“Here’s a thread of the alts we considered,” Castillo wrote, posting several images just as unique as what made it into the final sketch.
In one mockup, Progressive Insurance’s Flo character is in bed with Wallace & Gromit. In another, Shaquille O’Neal embraces a pregnant Sonic the Hedgehog. Some of the posted images appear to be original creations, while others already existed on the internet, like a steamy encounter between Toy Story‘s Buzz and Woody.

Castillo, who previously wrote for SNL between 2017-2021, rejoined the writers room in January. Bulla has been with the show since 2019, and was elevated to writing supervisor this year. Castillo and Bulla recently teamed up to write the memorable Ariana Granda music video sketch—and Midnight Matinee debut—”My Best Friend’s House.”
SNL’s “Rorshach Test” sketch has racked up nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube since it was posted early Sunday morning.
