We now know who will be mocking headlines for Saturday Night Live UK.
One week out from the SNL offshoot’s March 21 launch, LateNighter has learned that cast members Paddy Young and Ania Magliano have been tapped to co-anchor SNL UK‘s “Weekend Update” news desk.
“Paddy Young and Ania Magliano are our ‘Weekend Update’ hosts,” SNL UK lead producer James Longman told LateNighter’s podcast partner Saturday Night Network in an exclusive interview (below). “I’m very satisfied.”
Comedy writer and journalist Charlie Skelton (10 O’Clock Live, 8 Out of 10 Cats) will serve as SNL UK‘s “Weekend Update” head writer.
Describing the “Update” selection process and how it led to a Young-Magliano team-up, Longman told SNN, “We did some auditions and their chemistry was really fun and lovely.
“They are just both very funny in what they do and together they are a real lovely, charming unit,” he reiterated, “so we are very excited to put them out there.”
Young’s comedy credits include the Channel 4 sitcom Everyone Else Burns, ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show, ITV2’s sci-fi comedy series Timewasters, and the Channel 4 sketch comedy series Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping.
In 2023, Young made it to the finals at the BBC New Comedy Awards, and in 2024 he was named Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards. You might also remember him as describing the scale of SNL UK as nothing less than “quackers.”
Magliano founded the female and non-binary comedy collective Stockings, competed in Season 20 of the British comedy panel game show Taskmaster (ultimately placing second), appeared on The Stand Up Sketch Show, and memorably named “Ross from Friends” as her Comedy Hero.
As a writer, her credits include the British YouTube interview show Chicken Shop Date, and the BBC Radio programs Newsjack (satirical sketch comedy) and The Now Show (news satire). As a comedian, she has opened for Marc Maron and others.
Since the October 1975 launch of NBC’s SNL, “Weekend Update” and its take on the week’s headlines has been a fixture, and the source of viral jokes and sound bites. It traditionally airs after the musical guest’s first performance, and in addition to sending up current events, it is a forum for cast members to showcase different characters delivering commentary.
NBC’s SNL has cycled through nearly two dozen permutations of “Update” anchors across its 51-season run—starting with Chevy Chase and then Jane Curtin. The pairing of Colin Jost and Michael Che, which debuted with Season 40, stands as the segment’s longest-tenured team.
SNL UK premieres in the UK Saturday March 21, 2026 at 10 p.m. GMT on Sky One and streaming on NOW. Peacock will stream episodes in the U.S. on Sundays.
