SNL UK’s Time Slot Confirmed—Plus, Watch the Official Teaser

More pieces of the Saturday Night Live UK puzzle are coming together.

One month after the international SNL offshoot’s March 21 premiere date was announced, LateNighter can confirm that each week’s episode will air on Sky One at 10 p.m. GMT (London time)—or, 5 p.m. New York time.

Though the time slot is earlier in the night than the OG SNL‘s 11:30 p.m. berth, Sky in an SNL UK FAQ previously noted that UK television “allows swearing after the 9 p.m. watershed, while the US version does not allow swearing at any time on network television. As a result there is scope for the show to expand beyond what is allowed on their US counterpart.”

SNL UK‘s weekly run time is currently TBA; NBC episodes run 90 minutes.

SNL UK episodes will stream in the UK on NOW, and in Canada on Crave. Plans to potentially air and/or stream episodes Stateside have not been announced.

Sky One has also released a first teaser video, seen above, that evokes the opening credits for NBC’s SNL. Set to “Go” by The Chemical Brothers, it shows and IDs each cast member as they walk past London locations such as The Dog & Bell on Prince Street (a renowned pub) and a UK Fried Chicken stand, before ostensibly arriving at BBC Studioworks’ Television Centre—home of the storied TC1 studio from which each episode will be broadcast.

SNL UK recently revealed its cast of 11, as well as its 20-person writing staff. No hosts have yet been announced.

My understanding is that the UK is not known for being a late night country, hence the 10pm time slot.

Correct, as noted in our original reporting on the series order: https://latenighter.com/news/snl-uk-gets-initial-six-episode-order/
