SNL50 may be over, but Saturday Night Live still has another tentpole or two to bolster its next season.
Not only will the legendary sketch show be airing a new episode on the actual 50th anniversary of its premiere date on October 11, 2025, but the 12th episode of Season 51 will mark the show’s 1,000th episode overall.
If the season plays out as expected, the milestone episode should air somewhere between late January and mid-February 2026, a timeframe that will see NBC home to both The Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics, a rare one-two punch that promises to bring huge audiences to the network.
While it’s a safe bet that the 1,000th episode won’t receive nearly as much fanfare as this year’s SNL50 anniversary weekend, NBC and/or the show seem likely mark the occasion in some way.
Back in 1980, Saturday Night Live rang in its 100th episode with a cold open featuring former cast members Michael O’Donoghue and John Belushi.
