Ryan Gosling, Gorillaz to Headline SNL’s March 7 Episode

Ryan Gosling is set to host Saturday Night Live for a fourth time—and his first since April 13, 2024, an outing that went on to drive record Nielsen ratings and multiple Emmy Award nominations.

Gosling will return to Studio 8H March 7, ahead of the release of the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary sci-fi novel.

Gorillaz will make their SNL debut as musical guest that night, on the heels of the February 27 release of their upcoming album, The Mountain.

Gosling first hosted SNL in December 2015, then returned in September 2017 and April 2024. His most recent outing included one of the show’s most viral sketches in recent memory, a live-action take on Beavis and Butt-Head (played by Gosling, Mikey Day, and a heavy dose of wigs, makeup, and prosthetics),plus a Ken-centric monologue delivered alongside Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt, Kate McKinnon’s return, and basketball star Caitlin Clark’s Weekend Update cameo.

SNL that season racked up 18 total Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Scripted Variety Series and an Outstanding Guest Actor nod for Gosling himself. It ultimately converted six of those nominations into wins—for Hairstyling, Make-Up, and director Liz Patrick (all in Gosling’s episode), plus Production Design (for that season’s Josh Brolin-hosted episode), Lighting Design (for its Kristen Wiig-hosted episode), and Technical Direction (for its Timothée Chalamet-hosted episode)..

Gosling’s April 2024 hosting also generated impressive viewership numbers. Per Nielsen, it delivered 7,510,000 linear viewers, which at the time marked the sketch comedy series’ largest linear audience since Steve Martin and Martin Short co-hosted in December 2022. Factoring in digital plays, it also delivered SNL’s largest cross-platform audience (8.9 million) in more than two years.

Currently on a Winter Olympics hiatus, SNL resumes its season February 28, with host Connor Storrie (Heated Rivalry) and musical guest Mumford & Sons.
