Mark your calendars: Adam Sandler’s recent sit-down with David Letterman has a release date.
Netflix will release My Next Guest with David Letterman and Adam Sandler on Monday, December 1st, a new trailer for the special reveals.
As LateNighter initially reported, Sandler sat down with Letterman in early October at the actor’s alma mater, New York University, for a conversation for Letterman’s ongoing Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. During the conversation, Sandler recounted his comedy beginnings and his time at NYU, and was reportedly spotted touring the campus amid production.
While My Next Guest… was picked up for a two-season order this past summer, Sandler’s episode will serve as a standalone special for the series. This is a tack the streamer has used before to promote in-house projects. Most recently, John Mulaney co-headlined a special episode in advance of debuting John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA. Others included Zach Galifianakis and Jerry Seinfeld, both of whom were interviewed by Letterman at Netflix FYC events that were later released as bonus episodes.
In Sandler’s case, he has much to promote for the platform. First and foremost is Jay Kelly, a Noah Baumbach dramedy that sees Sandler take on his latest dramatic role, this time alongside George Clooney. The Netflix film, which just began a limited theatrical run, is due out globally on the streamer on December 5th. Sandler also has his lucrative overall deal with Netflix, which most recently saw the release of Happy Gilmore 2.
Now entering its sixth season, the cadence of My Next Guest’s releases have been sporadic in recent years. Most recently, the show produced a three-episode fifth season that saw two installments (Miley Cyrus, Charles Barkley) release simultaneously in June 2024, followed by one more (Caitlin Clark) in April 2025. That season followed the April 2024 special with Mulaney—which had been the first episode in over a year and went on to win an Emmy.
Netflix says the show’s sixth season proper will release later in December.
