Saturday Night Live is kicking off its three-episode December run with a returning favorite.
The show announced tonight that Melissa McCarthy will host its December 6th episode, alongside musical guest Dijon.
It will be McCarthy’s sixth time hosting Saturday Night Live, placing her neck-and-neck with Tina Fey in second place among women who’ve hosted the show the most. (Scarlett Johansson has held first place since last May, with a total of seven SNL hosting stints.)
McCarthy last hosted in May 2017 during SNL’s 42nd season, in a performance that would go on to earn her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series later that year. She has returned for two cameos since then—most recently last December when she joined Martin Short’s “Five-Timers Club” cold open, and later stole the show in that night’s “Parking Lot Altercation” sketch, where she, as Martin Short‘s character’s wife, harassed Chloe Fineman and Mikey Day‘s characters.
Dijon will be making his SNL debut. The singer-songwriter’s breakout came with his 2021 album Absolutely, which drew critical praise for its intimate, genre-blending production. He has since built a devoted following thanks to his atmospheric live performances and collaborations with artists like Justin Bieber and Charli xcx. His second studio album, Baby, was released in August 2025.
Saturday Night Live’s McCarthy–Dijon episode will immediately follow the show’s two-week Thanksgiving break. At press time there was no word yet on who will host the show’s other two December episodes.
