The (Fake) Melania Movie Reviews Are In, via Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Melania, the Brett Ratner-directed documentary about the First Lady, hits theaters this Friday and the early reviews are already in….

If you are to believe Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The ABC talker’s host on Thursday night marveled at Melania Trump‘s press tour for the docu, which included stops at Fox News, where she was met by such hard-hitting questions as, “What’s your favorite time of day?” (spoiler alert: morning!) and ,”Where did the original score come from?”

Producer Amazon MGM Studios, “by the way, shelled out $40 million to make this movie, and another $35 million to promote it, which is so much more than probably any documentary ever,” Kimmel remarked. (Indeed, a New York Times deep-dive notes that RBG, the 2018 doc about Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—and which actually netted Oscar nods—cost just one mil to make and $3 million to market.)

Amazon has maintained that their hefty bid for the film (reportedly $13 million more than runner-up Disney) “had nothing to do with the fact that [Melania’s] husband is a petty, vengeful bloodsucker,” quipped Kimmel. “A spokesperson for Amazon said, ‘We licensed the film for one reason and one reason only, because we think customers are going to love it.'”

Will audience members in fact “love it”? Actual Melania reviews are under embargo (seldom a good sign), so Jimmy Kimmel Live! dispatched a “Lies, Camera, Action!” crew to the streets to try to coerce strangers into lavishing praise on a documentary they hadn’t seen.

Press play above to see who couldn’t bring themselves to make like a MAGA moviegoer, watch a young woman gobble popcorn Slovenian sauerkraut from a Melania-shaped snack bucket, and get a re-enactment of a scene from the flick in which the First Lady swats her husband’s fanny with the Epstein files.
