Late Night with Seth Meyers is looking forward by looking back.
As the presidential election inches closer, the show has launched a new podcast series based on its signature “A Closer Look” segment. A Closer Look Back: Election 2024 will revisit old installments of the segment from Trump’s time in office, and discuss what those events tell us about what another four years with Trump in the White House could look like.
The podcast is hosted by Sal Gentile, the head writer and producer of Late Night’s “A Closer Look” segment. Gentile’s work on the show has earned him seven Emmy nominations and five WGA Award nods.
“I’m very excited to host this new podcast for @LateNightSeth where we revisit the Trump presidency through old Closer Looks and discuss what it portends for 2024 and a possible second Trump term,” Gentile wrote on X/Twitter.
The podcast is another example of Late Night building off of the success of “A Closer Look,” which has become the show’s breakout piece. The political deep-dive monologue has been a part of the show since almost the beginning, with Meyers even delivering some live. Just last week, Meyers took the series to primetime with the A Closer Look Primetime special and scored a ratings win for NBC.
The limited podcast series will live on the existing podcast feed for the Late Night with Seth Meyers Podcast, where it joins other series including Late Night Lit and Corrections: The Podcast.
The first episode of A Closer Look Back: Election 2024, which details Trump’s coup attempt, is out today.
