Late Night Ratings: Wednesday, October 2, 2024

Note: LateNighter’s late night daily ratings reports are drawn from Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and do not take include delayed and/or streaming views. They are generally posted on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert delivered another first place finish in the 11:35 p.m. timeslot this past Wednesday, though this episode drew fewer viewers across measurements than the Late Show‘s post-debate episode on Tuesday.

Featuring guests Andrew Garfield and Ina Garten, Colbert’s Wednesday, October 2 broadcast averaged 1,799,000 total viewers with 234,000 P18-49, easily No. 1 at 11:35 p.m. Despite the win, those deliveries are -23% and -10%, respectively, from the night before (Tuesday, Oct. 1). Wednesday’s Late Show also shed -14% in total viewers and -15% in P18-49 viewing from the Wednesday before (Sept. 25).

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon split second place in the 11:35 p.m. slot on Wednesday. Kimmel averaged more total viewers than Fallon (1,550,000 vs. 1,384,000), while Fallon averaged more P18-49 viewers than Kimmel (196,000 vs. 150,000).

Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s 1,550,000 total viewers average on Wednesday is down -6% from the night before, but up +12% from the previous Wednesday, while the episode’s 150,000 P18-49 average is down -18% from the night before, and -16% from the previous Wednesday. Jennifer Aniston, Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal were guests on Wednesday’s Kimmel. Ben Platt and Brandy Clark performed on the program.

The Tonight Show‘s 1,384,000 total viewers average on Wednesday is up +28% from the night before, and +1% from the prior Wednesday, while its 196,000 P18-49 average is down -3% from the night before, and -2% from the prior Wednesday. Luke Bryan, and Colin Kaepernick were guests on the program.

Following Fallon, the Oct. 2 edition of Late Night with Seth Meyers averaged a solid 956,000 total viewers with 160,000 P18-49. That’s up +28% in total viewers and +14% among P18-49 from the night before; +14% and +21%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode. Mariska Hargitay, and Method Man were guests on Wednesday’s Late Night.

The Oct. 2 edition of After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson averaged 510,000 total viewers with 120,000 P18-49. That’s down -26% in total viewers, and but up +10% among P18-49 from the night before; -27% and -6%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday. Michelle Collins, Vinny Thomas, Akilah Hughes were guests on Wednesday’s After Midnight.

Elsewhere, the Wednesday, Oct. 2 edition of Nightline averaged 791,000 total viewers with 92,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m. slot. That’s down -16% in total viewers but up +21% among P18-49 from the night before; -3% and -19%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode.

Lastly, guest-hosted by Michael Kosta, Wednesday’s episode of The Daily Show averaged 453,000 total viewers with 80,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +12% in total viewers but -27% from the night before (also hosted by Kosta). The Oct. 2 Daily Show gained +22% and +43%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s Daily Show (guest-hosted by Desi Lydic). Columbia University journalism school dean Jelani Cobb was Kosta’s guest on the program.
