Late Night Ratings: Wednesday, August 28, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

On a rerun-filled Wednesday, CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert out-performed its late night counterparts in the ratings by a slim margin, winning in total viewers and in Adults 18-49.

CBS re-aired The Late Show‘s July 23, 2024 episode on Wednesday, August 28, and the 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,159,000 total viewers with 135,000 P18-49 at 11:35 p.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s down -18% in total viewers and -13% in P18-49 viewers from the the previous day’s episode ; and -34% and -51%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday (a highly-rated episode which started late due to DNC coverage).

Elsewhere, ABC re-aired Jimmy Kimmel Live! ‘s August 13, 2024 episode this past Wednesday at 11:35 p.m., and the telecast averaged 803,000 total viewers with 133,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -6% and +2%, respectively, from the previous day’s Kimmel; -7% and +14%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s episode (which started at 12:22 a.m.).

Additionally, NBC re-aired The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s August 21, 2024 episode this past Wednesday. The 11:35 p.m. telecast averaged 1,043,000 total viewers with 117,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live plus same day data. That’s +4% and -33%, respectively from the day before; but +47% and +34%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday (when Tonight Show didn’t start until 12:30 a.m. ET).

Following Wednesday’s Fallon, NBC re-aired Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ August 14, 2024 episode. The 12:35 a.m. telecast averaged 604,000 total viewers with only 67,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -4% and -43%, respectively, from the previous day’s episode; +13% and -22%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday’s Late Night (which started at 1:33 a.m.).

Following Colbert, CBS’ re-aired After Midnight‘s July 8, 2024 episode, and the telecast averaged 433,000 total viewers with 81,000 P18-49, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -7% and +45%, respectively, from the day before; -26% and -32%, respectively, from the Wednesday before (when the program started at 1:23 a.m.).

Following Kimmel, ABC News’ Nightline averaged 550,000 total viewers with 91,000 P18-49 at 12:35 a.m., per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s -8% and -1%, respectively, from the day before; -2% and +36%, respectively, from the previous Wednesday Nightline (which started at 1:24 a.m.).

Comedy Central did not air The Daily Show on Wednesday, August 28.
