On Tuesday, March 12, several late-night offerings posted week-to-week gains in total viewers, but shed P18-49 viewers.
CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won the late-night ratings race on March 12 by a substantial margin, averaging 2,080,000 total viewers and 237,000 P18-49 viewers according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s up +10% in total viewers but -21% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday episode (March 5, 2024).
Diane Lane, and Patton Oswalt were Colbert’s guests on Monday, March 12.
After a third-place finish on Monday, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon moved back into second place on Tuesday, not just in P18-49 viewers (192,000), but also in average total viewers (1,487,000), ahead of its ABC competition in both measurements. The Tonight Show gained +34% in total viewers but shed -22% in P18-49 viewers from the prior Tuesday episode.
Carrie Coon, Katherine Blanford and NBC Olympics’ Opening Ceremony co-hosts Kelly Clarkson, Mike Tirico and Peyton Manning were Fallon’s guests on the March 12 edition of the Tonight Show. During the episode, Fallon unexpectedly committed to co-host the NBC’s Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony broadcast, set to take place on Aug. 11.
After a very solid Monday boosted by his Oscars host performance, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! saw an audience drop-off on Tuesday. The 11:35 offering averaged 1,412,000 total viewers and 157,000 P18-49 viewers on Tuesday, -22% and -28%, respectively, from the day before. (JKL did not submit Nielsen data for the previous Tuesday, when the show aired a rerun).

NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers was the most-watched show in late-night (829,000) at 12:37 a.m., but finished No. 3 in P18-49 viewing (96,000) behind CBS and ABC on Tuesday, March 12. The show gained +20% in total viewers but lost -52% in P18-49 viewers from the Tuesday before.
Ewan McGregor, Sara Bareilles, James Acaster, and Aric Improta were Meyers’ Late Night guests on March 12.
ABC News’ Nightline took second place in the 12:37 a.m. timeslot, both in total viewers (789,000) and in P18-49 viewers (98,000), on Tuesday, March 12. The half-hour news program gained +26% in total viewers but shed -33% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday broadcast.
CBS After Midnight hosted by Taylor Tomlinson won the P18-49 demo on Tuesday at 12:37 a.m. (119,000), but finished third in average total viewers (669,000). The program gained +20% in total viewers but shed -23% in P18-49 viewers from the previous Tuesday broadcast.
The Tuesday, March 12, 2024 installment of After Midnight featured guest appearances from Flula Borg, Chris Grace, and Pink Foxx.
On March 12, correspondents Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta co-hosted the Daily Show, and the episode averaged just 362,000 total viewers and 82,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. Relative to the previous Tuesday broadcast, The Daily Show dropped -14% in total viewers and -47% in P18-49 viewers.
