Late Night Ratings: Monday, April 8, 2024

Note: LateNighter generally posts late night daily ratings on a two (business) day delay, which is how they are released by Nielsen.

CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! kicked off the week of April 8, 2024 by splitting first place in the late night ratings race.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, The Late Show averaged late night’s largest total audience, 1,947,000 total viewers, which is actually -12% from the previous Monday episode (April 1, 2024). CBS’ 11:35 p.m. offering also averaged 194,000 P18-49 viewers on Monday, April 8, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That represents a -37% loss in P18-49 viewers from the Monday before.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Tyla were Colbert’s Late Show guests this past Monday.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged the most P18-49 viewers on late-night this past Monday (202,000), gaining +5% from the previous Monday episode. ABC’s 11:35 p.m. offering averaged the second-most total viewers in its timeslot (1,370,000), shedding -2% from the previous Monday.

Henry Cavill, Mike Epps, and Tori Kelly were Kimmel’s guests this past Monday, April 8.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon finished third at 11:35 p.m. this past Monday, both in P18-49 viewers (168,000), and in total viewers (1,208,000). The program gained +7% in total viewers, but shed -13% in P18-49 viewers from the prior Monday’s original episode.

Fallon’s guests on Monday, April 8 included Jim Parsons, Kaia Gerber, and Heart.

Hitting fast-forward, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers and ABC News’ Nightline split first place at 12:37 a.m.

Meyers’ Late Night averaged 817,000 total viewers on Monday, No. 1 in the timeslot and up +4% from the previous Monday. The half-hour Nightline averaged 111,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m., No. 1 and up +3% from the prior Monday. Late Night also averaged 109,000 P18-49 viewers this past Monday (-7% week-to-week), and Nightline averaged 777,000 total viewers (+6% week-to-week).

CBS’ After Midnight finished behind its NBC and ABC competition this past Monday, averaging 585,000 total viewers and 106,000 P18-49 viewers at 12:37 a.m. That’s a -15% decline in total viewers, and a -31% decline in P18-49 viewers from the previous Monday episode.

Jessica Lange, Corey Stoll, and Andrew Hurley were Seth Meyers’ guests on Late Night, while Dustin Nickerson, Dulcé Sloan, Amir K appeared on Taylor Tomlinson’s After Midnight this past Monday, April 8.

Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show on Monday, but viewers didn’t necessarily travel with him (many were tuned into the NCAA Men’s National Championship game telecast on TBS).

The April 8, 2024 Daily Show episode drew the smallest Stewart Monday audience since his part-time return to the anchor desk, averaging 671,000 total viewers and 127,000 P18-49 viewers, per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data. That’s a -3% decline in total viewers and a -23% decline in P18-49 demo viewers relative to the most-recent Monday Daily Show episode. Despite the drop-off, Stewart Mondays continue to haul in a far larger audience than what The Daily Show averages when its correspondents are at the desk.

CNN chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour was Jon Stewart’s Monday guest.
