Late Night Cleans Up at 2024 Webby Awards

The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel were all winners this morning as The Webby Awards named its 2024 recipents.

Late-night shows and hosts had been nominated in 16 categories this year. All told, only six of those categories went without a late-night program winning either the Webby or People’s Voice Award. (Webby Award recipients are determined by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, but fans can vote for a People’s Voice Award winner in each category.)

Three late-night shows were named academy-voted Webby Award winners. SNL won in the Video, Events & Live Streams category for its Monologue Live Stream. The Daily Show won two — its “Patriot Hammer” video for Best Writing, and its YouTube Channel for Best Variety Series or Channel. The latter simultaneously took home a People’s Voice Award. And Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s YouTube Channel won in a different category: Best Web Personality/Host.

It was in the fan-voted awards where late night got the most Webby love. The Daily Show won two People’s Voice Awards—one for its “Trump Gets Cooked on Fox News” mashup, and the aforementioned award for its overall YouTube presence. Two videos from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon also won: “The Jimin Experience” and “Super Mario Bradybox.” SNL’s Instagram Stories won for its live show coverage.

And two late-night-adjacent podcasts won People’s Voice Awards for Best Series: Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend (Comedy), and Strike Force Five (Limited Series).

Seeing as how Strike Force Five was hosted by the quintet of Fallon, Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and Seth Meyers, one could argue every late-night host is a winner this year.

A presentation ceremony for the Webbys will be held in NYC on May 13, hosted by late-night’s own Amber Ruffin. Winners’ speeches are limited to five words, and will be posted to the Webbys Instagram and TikTok channels.
