Kenan Thompson‘s Saturday Night Live summer hiatus is shaping up to be busy one.
Thompson is teaming up with Lamorne Morris for Unwanted, a film action comedy based on the popular QCODE podcast of the same name, Variety reports.
In the eight-episode podcast that released in 2021, two slackers—Ben (voiced by Morris) and Grant (Billy Magnussen)—attempt to catch an escaped convicted murderer, Shelly O’Keith (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) who is allegedly hiding in their town to cash in on the million-dollar reward the police are offering.
That plan, however, quickly unravels as Ben and Grant find themselves dangerously unprepared for the chaos that follows.
Morris and his longtime creative partner Kyle Shevrin co-wrote the film’s screenplay, Richie Keen (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is set to direct, and production on the comedy is scheduled for this summer.
Morris broke out with the 2011 Fox sitcom New Girl; his subsequent TV credits have included Valley of the Boom, Call Me Kat, Woke, Fargo Season 5, and Unstable.
On the big screen, meanwhile, he portrayed original SNL cast member Garrett Morris (no relation) in last year’s Saturday Night film from Jason Reitman.
Morris‘ other upcoming projects include Prime Video’s Spider-Noir series fronted by Nicolas Cage.
As we’ve reported, Thompson recently announced plans to re-team with his ’90s comedy partner Kel Mitchell for a new horror-comedy flick, Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein. That project was also said to have planned for this summer. It’s not clear whether he’ll be juggling both projects, or if Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein has been pushed back.
