Kat Timpf Is Taking a New Six-Week Hiatus From Gutfeld!

Kat Timpf is stepping away from Gutfeld! again—but this time, on her own terms.

At the end of last Friday’s episode, the Fox News panelist and co-host announced she’s taking a six-week break from the show to complete the maternity leave she originally intended to take last winter, before a breast cancer diagnosis upended her plans just hours before the birth of her first child.

Timpf explained that her initial maternity leave quickly turned into what she called “cancer leave,” as she spent much of the next four months undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

“So I have six weeks left in maternity leave that I never took,” Timpf told viewers, acknowledging that she wrestled with whether or not to take it amid worries about stepping away from her career. “I think just a lot of the things that we as women can worry about when we become moms.”

Ultimately, she said, the reality of how little of her postpartum time resembled a traditional maternity leave made the choice clear.

“My maternity leave sucked,” Timpf said bluntly, noting that cancer treatment and surgery prevented her from doing things many new mothers take for granted—including picking up her newborn son in the weeks after his birth.

Now healthy and with her son older, Timpf said the timing finally feels right to take that time—both with her child and with her husband, whom she emphasized shared the strain of the past year. “I didn’t go through this—we went through this,” she said.

Joking that she’ll be “microdosing trad wife for a little while,” Timpf stressed that the hiatus is temporary and that she plans to return fully to television and stand-up comedy. “I’m going to be so back,” she promised.

Timpf, who has been a core presence on Gutfeld! since its inception in 2015, has shared much of her health journey publicly. In February 2025, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer the same day she gave birth. She returned to the show in June following a double mastectomy, then briefly stepped away again in July to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Closing her remarks Friday, Timpf thanked viewers for the support she said helped carry her through the past year. “One of the main ways I’ve gotten through it is the support from so many of the people who’ve watched the show,” she said.

Timpf is expected to return to Gutfeld! the week of February 23. Watch her full announcement at the top of this post.

You’ve been through a lot: physically, emotionally and mentally, and you’re right it involves your husband as well. Enjoy some quiet time. The chaos will always be there to follow you, honey.
