Kat Timpf is stepping away from Gutfeld! again—but this time, on her own terms.
At the end of last Friday’s episode, the Fox News panelist and co-host announced she’s taking a six-week break from the show to complete the maternity leave she originally intended to take last winter, before a breast cancer diagnosis upended her plans just hours before the birth of her first child.
Timpf explained that her initial maternity leave quickly turned into what she called “cancer leave,” as she spent much of the next four months undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
“So I have six weeks left in maternity leave that I never took,” Timpf told viewers, acknowledging that she wrestled with whether or not to take it amid worries about stepping away from her career. “I think just a lot of the things that we as women can worry about when we become moms.”
Ultimately, she said, the reality of how little of her postpartum time resembled a traditional maternity leave made the choice clear.
“My maternity leave sucked,” Timpf said bluntly, noting that cancer treatment and surgery prevented her from doing things many new mothers take for granted—including picking up her newborn son in the weeks after his birth.
Now healthy and with her son older, Timpf said the timing finally feels right to take that time—both with her child and with her husband, whom she emphasized shared the strain of the past year. “I didn’t go through this—we went through this,” she said.
Joking that she’ll be “microdosing trad wife for a little while,” Timpf stressed that the hiatus is temporary and that she plans to return fully to television and stand-up comedy. “I’m going to be so back,” she promised.
Timpf, who has been a core presence on Gutfeld! since its inception in 2015, has shared much of her health journey publicly. In February 2025, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer the same day she gave birth. She returned to the show in June following a double mastectomy, then briefly stepped away again in July to undergo reconstructive surgery.
Closing her remarks Friday, Timpf thanked viewers for the support she said helped carry her through the past year. “One of the main ways I’ve gotten through it is the support from so many of the people who’ve watched the show,” she said.
Timpf is expected to return to Gutfeld! the week of February 23. Watch her full announcement at the top of this post.

Enjoy your time with your son & husband. My 43 year old daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 20. Had a double mastectomy November 25. You’ve been through a lot: physically, emotionally and mentally, and you’re right it involves your husband as well. Enjoy some quiet time. The chaos will always be there to follow you, honey.
Hurry Back! We will miss you! Enjoy your baby!
I don’t miss her. she has forgotten this is a comedy show. seems to be way too serious lately. new career maybe?
I am praying for you. You are the best. God bless you and your family.

you are one strong courageous woman. enjoy leave and see you soon!!
I miss Kat on the show. I love Kat, she is so intelligent, thoughtful and kind. Praying she has a wonderful time with her baby boy and husband – being a traditional mommy for a bit.
I want to wish you a speedy recovery from all that you have been going through. Family is the most important thing in your life. hope to see you back on Gutfeld again.
We will be waiting patiently for your return and I admire your decision to take leave. It will not hinder your career to the people like me who follow it. The tremendous amount of respect you show for your husband and son by your decision is commendable.
Hurry back Kat. We all miss you. God bless you and your wonderful family and stay strong.

Great “to the point” summation, no fluff
I wish Kat well and feel bad for her cancer she had to treat. But if I was being honest I really don’t think of
her as a great asset on Gutfield. The other woman in her place are far better.
Best wishes and enjoy your gift from god.
I wish her well, but TBH she is the worst panelist on the Gutfeld show. Not funny 7 most times boring to listen to. Sorry, just being honest.
Keep your honesty to yourself. Kat is great as she doesn’t always agree with the other guests. I’d like to see you do better. We love you, Kat. Can’t wait till you come back!
Miss you a lot. Will be glad to have you back. A very smart lady.
Hope you are doing well you are missed on the show God Bless

Brian
I’m sorry she returned from her remaining six weeks of maternity leave. The show is much better without her. She really isn’t funny. She doesn’t come off as being intelligent. And, why does she seem to be unhappy to be on the show? Thank goodness she’s NOT on Fox and Friends!
Going though breast cancer is not fun. First, my maternal grandmother had one breast removed, underwent radiation treatment. Then my younger sister had breast cancer, but always regretted not having both breasts removed, underwent chemotherapy, but was very heavy and was “lopsided” the rest of her life. My mother had only one breast removed. I made the decision to have both breasts removed at the same time after the diagnosis of breast cancer with the agreement of my husband, surgeon and also my pathologists for whom I worked. I had the surgery on my 64th birthday and will turn 85 in June. My husband and I have been married for 66 years.
God bless you Kat in this needed time off with your son and husband. I’didnt fully understand until recently when on February 28, of this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. So being on this new journey and experiencing the shock of hearing the word “cancer” I know how it changes everything. You will never regret this decision for this time away from career. I look forward to your return and your quirky takes on current issues!
