Leave it to Jon Stewart and The Daily Show to meet the moment.
As we’ve previously reported, TDS is mixing things up this week, with usual Monday night host Stewart hosting a special live episode Thursday night after the first presidential debate.
Today we’re learning a bit more about the show’s plans for its post-debate coverage.
Airing live after the CNN debate on Thursday, June 27, “The Daily Show Presents Indecision 2024: The First Presidential Debate: America Watches Through Its Fingers” will lean into the existential crisis of it all, with Stewart set to sit down with psychotherapist Lori Gottlieb for what we assume will be a bit of a debate post-mortem.
It’s an inspired booking, for sure. Gottlieb, the author of the New York Times bestselling book Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, writes the “Dear Therapist” advice column for The Atlantic, where she regularly counsels readers through moments of crisis.
With Stewart hosting Thursday, Daily Show correspondent Michael Kosta will be pinch-hitting for him tonight, Monday June 24. Kosta’s guest will be Paul W. Downs, who is the co-creator and co-showrunner of the Max comedy series Hacks. (He also co-stars on the show, playing showbiz manager Jimmy Lusaque Jr.)
Kosta returns to The Daily Show anchor desk Tuesday and Wednesday this week. On Tuesday, he’ll welcome Peter S. Goodman, global economics correspondent for The New York Times and author of the new book How the World Ran Out of Everything: Inside the Global Supply Chain. Kosta’s guest on Wednesday will be investigative journalist Sharon Lerner, whose recent reporting for The New Yorker and ProPublica exposed how 3M found its own toxic compounds in human blood—and kept selling them.
