Jon Stewart Is Taking a Post-Emmys Daily Show Break

With The Daily Show dark tonight as staffers make their way back from Sunday night’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, viewers will have to wait another week for Jon Stewart to retake the show’s anchor desk.

The show itself will be back with new episodes Tuesday through Thursday of this week, with Desi Lydic at the helm.

While The Daily Show came up short in both of its nominated categories on Sunday—losing Outstanding Talk Series to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver—Lydic herself is fresh off two wins at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys for her Daily Show YouTube series Desi Lydic Foxsplains,

She’ll open her three-night run this weel by chatting with Jay Duplass and Michael Strassner, the director and star of the indie comedy The Baltimorons. Midweek, she’ll welcome rising actor Cooper Hoffman to talk about new film The Long Walk. And she’ll wrap the week in conversation with Michael Urie, who’s currently appearing onstage in the Off-Broadway hit Oh, Mary!.

The Daily Show isn’t the only late-night show taking a quick post-Emmys break. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is also dark tonight, with Colbert and team set to kick off a shortened week of shows Tuesday.

Stewart is expected back next Monday, September 23.

I don’t blame you. Rest, love, resist, repeat. Eat something delicious. Hug someone a long time.

I will miss him also miss Steven Colbert. Two people who take mind off of craziness we are going through

    But Jon,
You just got back from a break.
Look, it’s none of my business if you need time for personal matters,
but, but, but We Need You – now more than ever!

You showed yourself to be useless, Stewart! You shouldn’t have returned to that desk, if you still weren’t ready to evolve from 20-25 years ago! You made yourself a useful idiot to MAGA!

Dear Jon, I wanted to write someone up there in front of people. Something needs to move. Maybe it’s this. I’m wanting you to consider something related to Colbert. Someone should be nominating Colbert for a Nobel. No for real.
He works for peace and does it all of the time.
I can’t because I don’t make a difference. He qualifies, and what he does to push back against the dt crap (while giving up everything), is 100% courageous peace work.

I hope you can find someone who can make that happen.
