It’s not clear what he’s cooking up, but in a pair of social media posts this afternoon, the Instagram handles for both Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Kimmel Live! wrote, “Our show tonight is specifically for Republicans, but you can watch it too.”
That was accompanied with a graphic that reads “Ask a Republican you love to watch Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.”
The show’s announced guests tonight are actors Hugh Grant and Aldis Hodge, along with musical guest Dawes.
Kimmel, of course, is one of Donald Trump’s fiercist critics, with the ABC late-night host and the former president trading barbs for the better part of the last eight years, never more famously than when Kimmel read an insulting social media post from Trump at this year’s Oscars, before commenting that he was surprised to hear from the 39-times indicted former president, adding “Isn’t it past your jail time?”
Kimmel’s quickly conceived joke brought down the house and led to a series of oddly delayed counter-attacks from Trump, who appeared to confuse Kimmel with this year’s Best Picture presenter, Al Pacino.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host has been playing a more politically active role off the air, as well. In June hosted a fundraiser for President Biden, and just last week he visited his hometown of Las Vegas to campaign for the Democratic ticket there, alongside his old family friend Sen. Jacky Rosen.
