Jimmy Kimmel Signs One-Year Renewal; Will Host Jimmy Kimmel Live! Through May 2027

Jimmy Kimmel will continue as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! for at least one more year. ABC has extended his contract through May 2027, adding twelve months to a deal that had been set to expire in May 2026.

Sources familiar with the situation say the new agreement is widely viewed inside the network as a likely final chapter for Kimmel’s two-decade run in late night, though his history of wavering over past renewals means nothing is certain.

Bloomberg was first to report the news of the new deal.

Kimmel, who reportedly announced news of the renewal to his staff this morning, later wrote on Instagram, “I am pleased to announce another no-talent year!”

The extension follows a rocky period for the host, who was briefly taken off the air by Disney in September after remarks he made in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s killing.

The one-year extension is unusual for Kimmel, whose past renewals have covered multiple years. It comes on the heels of last summer’s bombshell that CBS had cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Both shows have been longtime antagonists of Donald Trump, with the hosts themselves often targeted by the president, who has repeatedly called for their firings. CBS, whose parent company Paramount was in the final stages of receiving FCC approval for its acquisition by Skydance when news broke of Colbert’s cancellation, has repeatedly denied that politics played a role in its decision to cancel Colbert’s Late Show. (Insiders at the network have said the show was losing tens of millions of dollars a year.)

Kimmel launched his late-night program in 2003 as the new kid on the block. Nearly 23 years later, he is the longest-tenured late-night host of the current crop.

Oh yeah, he’s definitely getting ready to retire. Letterman did the exact same thing in 2014 before he announced he was retiring from hosting the Late Show. I ‘m shocked though that he’s choosing to stick around for one more season. You’d think he would want to get out of the business as soon as possible, especially since all of the Trump drama and Cleto’s death. Maybe he wants to stick around for the midterms? Maybe he doesn’t want to leave around the same time Colbert is leaving? Who knows.

Johnny Carson worked on one year renewals for several years before his retirement.

Thank God, he’s the only voice of reason we have left to represent our feeling about the mess trump has made of our country! I love Jimmy and his family and what he stands for. He’s a good man, and a family man, something trump knows nothing about. If he doesn’t like Jimmy, why does he watch his show! Duh!

Jimmy and his show’s problem is his wife. TDS is alive and well. Mr. Trump Rocks! And you KNOW it! Be blessed.
