Guest Hosts Return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! This Summer

Jimmy Kimmel is taking the summer off.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host will cede his desk to a revolving lineup of guest hosts beginning on June 24 in what has become an annual tradition. It’s the fourth time Kimmel has opted to take the summer off; he did it for the first time in the midst of the COVID pandemic in 2020. “There’s nothing wrong, I’m healthy, my family’s healthy,” Kimmel said at the time. “I just need a couple of months off.”

The respite was clearly a good thing for Kimmel, who chose to hand over summer hosting duties again in 2021 and 2022. One imagines that he would have done the same in 2023, but the show was off the air due to the WGA and SAG strikes.

In years past, Kimmel has welcomed an impressive roster of A-list fill-ins. Dana Carvey, Chelsea Handler, Jeff Goldblum, RuPaul, Nikki Glaser, David Alan Grier, Al Franken, Rob McElhenney, Desus Nice, Joel McHale, George Lopez, Lamorne Morris, Sean Hayes, Nicole Byer, Kerry Washington, and Simu Liu are among the stars who have taken over the host’s chair in summers past.

In the spring of 2022, Kimmel tested positive for COVID twice and opted to go the guest-host route then, too. That produced a handful of memorable episodes that saw Mike Birbiglia, Andy Samberg, and John Mulaney step in—with those latter two hosting as a duo (and spending part of the show interviewing each other).

Expect an announcement with at least one guest host’s name the week of June 17.
