Jimmy Kimmel Interviews Trump’s Bruised Hand on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Jimmy Kimmel found a novel way to address one of the more peculiar strands of speculation surrounding Donald Trump on Wednesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!—by interviewing the president’s hand.

Kimmel opened the segment by explaining that he’d invited Trump to appear on the show to commemorate the one year anniversary of his return to office. “Unfortunately, his head was unavailable to talk,” Kimmel said, before revealing that another part of the president’s body had agreed to sit down instead. Moments later, Trump’s badly bruised right hand introduced itself to the audience “in the flesh—the rotting, diseased flesh.”

For much of the past year, Trump’s right hand has drawn attention because of visible bruising, discoloration, and occasional makeup or bandaging. The White House has attributed the marks to a combination of frequent handshaking, aspirin use—which can thin the blood—and a benign circulatory condition known as Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Medical experts have generally characterized the bruising as minor and unremarkable given Trump’s age and medications.

The explanations have not stopped the speculation, particularly as similar bruising has more recently appeared on Trump’s non-dominant left hand, complicating the handshake rationale and fueling ongoing curiosity about the 79 year-old president’s overall health.

When Kimmel asked about the conspicuous bruise, the hand feigned surprise that it was visible at all, before attempting to cover it with what it called “subtle foundation,” as it proceeded to spray itself with Cheez Whiz.

The segment escalated when Kimmel asked whether the president could hear them. The hand explained that Trump was in an “extremely important meeting,” before cutting to footage of the president asleep during a Cabinet session.

As with much of Jimmy Kimmel’s Trump-era satire, the joke wasn’t really about anatomy. By literalizing the president as a disembodied, bruised appendage—signing orders while its owner sleeps—Kimmel skewered both the secrecy surrounding Trump’s health and the broader sense that important decisions are often obscured, deflected, or glossed over.

Kimmel wrapped the segment after the hand offered to introduce him to another Trump body part: his cankles. “That’s all right, thank you,” the host replied, bringing the interview—and Trump’s roaming extremities—to an end.
