Fans who weren’t able to watch Jimmy Fallon and DJ Khaled face off on the links this summer now have the chance to see how it all played out.
The Cardigan Classic: Fallon vs. Khaled will air on NBC next Friday, September 13, in The Tonight Show’s usual time slot. The four-hole golf match was held earlier this summer at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
It all came to fruition when, seemingly out of nowhere, Fallon used a July episode of The Tonight Show to challenge DJ Khaled to a golf match. Khaled then appeared on the show to accept the challenge.
If the challenge seemed random, that’s because it was. The last-minute event came together in only a week’s time. Fallon hatched the idea after following Khaled on social media and noticing the artist had been getting into golf.
“I didn’t really have anything set up yet, to be honest,” Fallon told TV Insider. “I have no place to play. I didn’t know where we [were] going to do it. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I called NBC Sports and I go, ‘Do you have anything coming up that we could play?’”
The network arranged the event to follow Lake Tahoe’s American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament, which it was already covering, in order to utilize the same TV crew and spectators.
In lieu of the Masters Green Jacket, the pair competed for a red cardigan. While Fallon has already revealed the outcome of the match on his show (spoiler: Jimmy won) that didn’t stop him from talking smack to Khaled on The Tonight Show again on Thursday night.
“They’re so confident I’m going to win, I’m hearing they only made the sweater in my size,” Fallon boasted. “That’s right: Youth Large.”
Viewers who want to watch the match for themselves can tune into NBC on Friday, September 13 at 11:35 p.m. ET.
The Cardigan Classic: Fallon vs. Khaled will also stream on Peacock the next day, and be rebroadcast on the Golf Channel beginning Monday, September 16.
