Jimmy Fallon and His Puppy Predictors Are Super Bowl-Bound

UPDATE: The pups made their big game debut during the second hour of NBC’s pregame coverage Sunday. See who they picked.

First on LateNighter: The Tonight Show’s Puppy Predictors are ready for the big show—or at least the big pregame show. After ten years of predicting the Super Bowl in late night, Jimmy Fallon and his prognosticating puppies are bringing their act to NBC’s coverage of Super Bowl LX this Sunday

Sources tell LateNighter the show pretaped a segment Thursday afternoon featuring the canine Carnacs. (As for which team they predicted to win, we wouldn’t dare unleash that information.)

It’s become one of Fallon’s signature bits to enlist a gaggle of golden retriever puppies to determine the winner of the big game. Setting up two dog bowls full of food—each one representing a team—Fallon releases the dogs and lets them beeline for their choice. Whichever bowl attracts the most puppies wins.

Fallon has trotted out the pups to make predictions about all manner of matchups—including the Kentucky Derby, March Madness, the Academy Award for Best Picture, and even presidential elections—dating back to his Late Night with Jimmy Fallon days. (The canines first made NFL predictions on that show in 2011, when they attempted to forecast the teams in Super Bowl XLV months in advance.)

But before you call your bookie, take note: Fallon’s puppies do not have the best track record. In fact, they’ve correctly predicted just three of the past ten Super Bowl winners. The last time they got it right was in 2021, when they picked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sunday’s collaboration is just one of many between Fallon and NBC Sports. As we’ve reported, The Tonight Show recently aired four special Sunday night episodes following Sunday Night Football, and Fallon has been hosting basketball-themed episodes as companion programming to NBC’s Tuesday night NBA broadcasts all season

In another tie-in, The Tonight Show is airing a rare new Friday night episode tonight, immediately following NBC’s coverage of the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

LateNighter has reached out to NBC for comment on the puppy predictors’ game day debut and will update this post when/if we hear back.

NBC’s Super Bowl LX pregame show kicks off Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT.
