Late night favorites Roy Wood Jr., Amber Ruffin, and Michael Ian Black are back on CNN in season two of Have I Got News For You, and LateNighter has your first look at this week’s new episode.
In an exclusive clip, the panelists (including this week’s guests Comedian Joyelle Nicole Johnson and Rep. Mike Lawler) are tasked with guessing the Missing Words in this headline:
“Peruvian Police Officer Wears __________ to Make Arrest in Drug Probe”
Michael Ian Black gives the first answer: “I’m gonna say Paddington Bear costume.”
“Full drag” answers Joyelle Nicole Johnson, while Amber Ruffin guesses “no clothes at all.”
The correct answer? A capybara costume.
That’s right, a Peruvian police officer costumed as an adorable rodent apprehended a suspected drug dealer–on Valentine’s Day, no less. And it was all captured on bodycam video.
As Roy Wood Jr explains, officers in the Peruvian National Police’s Green Squad often dress up in costume as a way to get suspected criminals to let their guard down.
After watching footage of the suspect being tackled and cuffed by the costumed cop, which plays out like an episode of Cops starring Barney the Dinosaur, HIGNFY‘s stars all agree: that was awesome.
“If ICE comes to my door and they’re wearing the capybara costume? I’m opening the door,” quips Black.
“Imagine being on drugs and a six foor beaver walks in,” jokes Wood. “Like, that’s Fortnite. That only happens in Fortnite.”
“I don’t like the thought of being arrested,” says Ruffin. “But Capybara makes it a little cuter.”
Have I Got News For You airs on CNN Saturday nights at 9pm ET, and streams the next day on Max.
