Here’s How the Late-Night Shows Addressed the L.A. Wildfires

Each of the New York-based network late-night shows took time out Wednesday night to send messages of support to those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.

“We know the people of Los Angeles are resourceful and kind, and they’re doing everything they can to help one another,” Stephen Colbert said at the top of his monologue Wednesday night.

“We want to send our love and concern to all the residents of Los Angeles who are facing what is being described as the most destructive fire in the city’s history,” he added.

The host then shared a QR code to a page with links to donate to The California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Diasaster Fund, World Central Kitchen, The California Community Foundation’s Wildlife Recovery Fund, and Pasadena Humane’s Wildfire Relief Fund.

Seth Meyers also addressed the disaster at the top of Wednesday night’s Late Night, saying “Before we kick things off, we just want to send our love to everybody in the Los Angeles area and California right now who are dealing with wildfires.”

“The scenes we’re seeing on television are obviously harrowing, and there are no real words that I can share other than that we are thinking about you and we are hoping for your safety.”

Jimmy Fallon, who later welcomed an emotional Jamie Lee Curtis, whose Pacific Palisades community has been ravaged by fire over the last 36 hours, also addressed the fire from his desk after delivering his opening monologue.

“I just want to say that our hearts go out to everyone in Los Angeles right now dealing with the massive wildfires out there,” he said.

“You see the footage on TV and it’s just surreal. We have so many friends who have been affected. We just hope that everyone stays safe, including all the firefighters and everyone else trying to contain it. Stay safe. We love you, L.A.”

Earlier in the day, both of late night’s Los Angeles-based shows cancelled their tapings, with both Jimmy Kimmel Live! and After Midnight with Taylor Tomlinson airing repeats Wednesday night.
