CNN on Wednesday morning officially confirmed that which Roy Wood Jr. let slip on-air on late March: Have I Got News for You will be back for a fifth season.
We also now have a premiere date for the panel show’s next run of episodes, though it’s a ways off: Saturday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET.
“We’re thrilled to return for Season 5 and continue covering the nation’s most important stories, most of which still sound made up,” host Wood Jr. and team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black said in a joint statement.
Wood had appeared to reveal the renewal during HIGNFY‘s Season 4 finale, signing off with, “I’ll see you in the fall for more episodes of Have I Got News for You.” The official pickup extends the run of one of CNN’s most successful recent originals. Since debuting in September 2024, the U.S. adaptation of the long-running British panel show has drawn strong reviews and quietly delivered solid ratings for the cabler.
“Season 4 demonstrated just how strongly this series is resonating with audiences, becoming a standout performer across CNN’s platforms and a meaningful part of the weekly conversation online,” Amy Entelis, EVP of talent, CNN Originals, said in a statement. “At a time when people are looking for entertaining ways to engage with the nonstop news cycle, Roy, Amber and Michael continue to deliver something that feels timely and culturally relevant—and we will continue building on that success with a fifth season this fall.”
Notable guests from Season 4—which at one point was preempted for three straight weeks by news coverage of the war in Iran—included U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Hasan Minhaj, Andy Richter, Kara Swisher, Ari Shapiro, Larry Wilmore, Gianmarco Soresi, Bomani Jones, and Nimesh Patel.
Airing on what has traditionally been a dead zone for cable news, Have I Got News for You has become a reliable Saturday-night performer, often outpacing CNN’s weekday primetime lineup. Episodes also stream the next day on HBO Max.
The companion podcast Have I Got News for Your Ears, hosted by Black, releases new episodes every Wednesday; episodes are also available to stream on the HIGNFY YouTube page.
Thank God this show is coming back! It is much needed considering the stupidity coming out from the current regime in Washington.
Hopefully the Paramount Skydance acquisition of WBD doesn’t affect this show.
And how many S5 episodes not be televised, in order to bring Saturday night’s “breaking news”.
