Glen Powell Chooses His ‘Weapon of Choice’ in New SNL Promo

Glen Powell is flipping out over his Saturday Night Live hosting gig—literally.

The first promo for this weekend’s episode finds the movie star bringing his best dance moves to the SNL offices, before it all comes to a crashing halt.

The clip pays homage to Spike Jonze’s iconic music video for Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice,” which featured Christopher Walken dancing his way through a deserted hotel lobby.

In SNL‘s version, Powell sits in a waiting room outside Studio 8H when a radio broadcast captures his attention. “Big news out of New York: Glen Powell is hosting Saturday Night Live this week with Olivia Dean,” the radio reports. The reminder charges up the Running Man actor, inspiring him to begin an elaborate dance routine through the hallway and into the SNL studio.

Powell aims to end the impressive sequence on a high note, but quite literally falls flat. Bursting through the doors of home base (and treating SNL fans to a rare backstage perspective of the storied entranceway), Powell attempts a front flip. In Walken’s version of the dance, a front flip sent him gracefully flying around the room. When Powell tries it, he wipes out hard.

Moments later, a medic (played by Tommy Brennan) wheels Powell out on a stretcher wearing a neck brace. The actor encounters Sarah Sherman and Andrew Dismukes running lines in the hallway, and has just three words for the cast members:  “Don’t. Tell. Lorne.”

Saturday’s show will mark Glen Powell’s hosting debut, though he has seen SNL airtime once before. The actor made a cameo appearance in Sydney Sweeney’s monologue last season, debunking rumors of an on-set romance between the two while filming the romantic comedy Anyone But You. Musical guest Olivia Dean will be making her SNL debut as well.
