With the Los Angeles wildfires cancelling the planned New York City premiere of their new film Back in Action, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx will not be guesting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonw Thursday night.
The two actors had been scheduled for a joint appearance with Fallon to promote the new Netflix flick.
The new action comedy is being billing as Cameron Diaz’s comeback movie, following an 11-year hiatus from film acting. It’s also the film Jamie Foxx was shooting in 2023 when he suffered a stroke that initially left him unable to walk.
Netflix announced it was cancelling the Back in Action premiere last night, marking the first major entertainment in New York to be affected by the fires. “We recognize many in our industry and their loved ones are currently affected and our thoughts are with them at this time,” the streamer said in a statement at the time.
Thursday’s Tonight Show visit would have been Foxx’s first appearance on a late-night talk show since his stroke, and Diaz’s first since returning to acting.
Appearing in place of the duo tonight will be Willie Geist of NBC News, who was previously scheduled to appear on the show next Wednesday. Comedian Pete Lee is also scheduled to perform on tonight’s show.
With firefighters and emergency workers still battling three major fires in Los Angeles County, production on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and After Midnight with Taylor Tomlinson—the two Los Angeles-based late-night shows—has been halted .
Meanwhile, the New York late-night shows each paid tribute to Los Angeles and its residents on their shows, with Colbert, Meyers, Fallon, and Desi Lydic urging viewers to contribute to the American Red Cross and other organizations on the ground in L.A. working to help victims of the fires.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who home was threatened by the Palisades fire, made an emotional appearance with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night, telling the host “I’m literally just about to cry” as she sat down, and shared what she knew about the toll it had already taken on her community.
